Oregon @ USC, 1933

(Oregon @ USC, November 18, 1933)

Surprisingly, baseball wasn't the only game in town in 1933. In fact, that year a mediocre ex-Yankee outfielder from Chicago, named George Halas, helped rewrite the rule book in hopes of attracting larger crowds to something called the NFL. Professional football?

A lot of people thought that was what you did between classes at Notre Dame and USC. And who could argue? The Trojans shut out The Irish in 1932 then completed their undefeated, untied season by ringing in the New Year with a 35-0 Rose Bowl shellacking of the Panthers from Pitt. It was no fluke. Including Pitt, USC outmuscled its ten opponents that season by a combined score of 201-13.
